HOLIDAY HOME FOR CATS (boarding cattery) Licenced by Environmental Health |
Asian Leopard Cat The Asian Leopard Cat lives close to watercourses in forests and rainforests in both low and mountainous areas, he can climb trees skillfully and is also able to swim, although usually requires a reason to do so. This cat is nocturnal, and during the day he/she usually spends time in dens that may be hollow trees, cavities under roots, or caves, although will spend time out during the day in areas where there are no humans. The Leopard Cat is solitary in the wild, except during breeding season. There is no fixed breeding period in the southern part of its range; in the colder northern parts it tends to breed around March or April, when the weather is nice enough to support newborn kittens. The estrus period lasts for 5-9 days. After a gestation period of 9-10 weeks, two or three kittens are usually born in a den, and will remain there until they are about a month old. They open their eyes at approximately ten days old, and start to eat solid food at about 23 days of age. If the kittens are killed the mother may come into call again and have another litter that year. Leopard cats are carnivorous, and feed on a variety of small prey according to the region they live in, including mammals, lizards, amphibians, birds, insects, hare, poultry and aquatic prey. They also may eat grass and eggs as a supplement in their diets. In captivity these gorgeous cats can be sociable and enjoy being part of a community/family but require time spent with them every day. They are a long term commitment and do not make an ideal pet, they require experiensed hands. As kittens they love to play but when they are adults and still love to play these gorgeous very fast cats have very sharpe claws. They also spray and need a specialise balanced diet of raw fresh raw food. Processed Cat Food is NOT an option!
